What is MASC?
Created specifically for men, MASC is a body-centred therapy that looks at the connection of the mind and body and uses both coaching and physical therapies for healing and releasing the pent-up tension that is negatively affecting your physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.
Who is it for?
It is for every man. As well as issues related to trauma and abuse, MASC helps men who suffer from stress, anxiety, depression, grief, addiction, problems with relationships, physical pain, digestive disorders and sexual function.
What to Expect
There aren’t many people or places men can go to and feel safe, open and free to talk and share what is really bothering them. MASC sessions are the place you can no matter how awkward or embarrassed you may feel initially. Sessions are built on trust and respect and you share what’s going on in your mind, body and life without judgement. You share what you want to when you are ready.
Along with talking, MASC uses breathing, releasing and calming exercises, muscle activations, myofascial release, focused massage therapy and meditation to help relieve symptoms and get to the source of an issue.
The MASC Theory
Most men are stuck living in their head. They have a six lane motorway to their body and a cycle path back from their body to their head. They have forgotten or never known that their body has a role to play in living their lives.
The mind, body and emotions are all related and connected to each other. As a result, the stress of past emotional and traumatic events affects the central nervous system and can cause changes in your body often resulting in poor restricted movement patterns, contracted posture, low body confidence and physical pain.
Through developing awareness of the mind-body connection and using specific interventions, MASC helps you release the tension, anger, frustration and other emotions that remain in your body from these past negative experiences. It’s goal is to help free you from the stress and pain that is preventing you from fully engaging in your life.
You live and experience your life through your mind and body and store those experiences and their impacts and outcomes in your mind and body. Working with only your mind, or only your body, is not enough to make a difference to you and your life.
To make changes in your mind and body you have to use your mind and body because you are both!
